Hospice of Anchorage

Upcoming Hospice of Anchorage events

August 1, 2017

Hospice of Anchorage has several upcoming events that we would like to share with the community. In August, we hope you’ll join us for “A Walk to Remember,” which is a memorial walk, and in September, we host Camp Erin, a bereavement camp for kids and teens ages 6 to 17 years old. These events are at no charge to the community.

In recognition of people who have experienced pregnancy loss, including miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, fetal deaths, and neonatal deaths, as well as those who have lost a child, we gather for “A Walk to Remember,” Saturday, Aug. 12 at 9 a.m. You may choose to participate in remembrance activities, connect with others who have also experienced loss, and at 10 a.m. there will be a walk to University Lake for a message release.

This event is held in partnership with The Bereavement Council at Providence Children’s Hospital and is a nationwide event.

As part of Hospice of Anchorage’s Forget Me Not Grief Support Group, we have a peer based miscarriage, pregnancy and infant loss support group. If you or someone you know might benefit from our support group, don’t hesitate to call to start our intake process at 561-5322. All of our services are offered at no charge.

Every fall, we are excited to host a bereavement camp for children, Camp Erin, sponsored in part by The Moyer Foundation. This year we will be holding camp on Friday, Sept. 22 through Sunday, Sept. 24. In order to attend, campers must apply by Tuesday, Aug. 15. Space is limited, and we accept campers on a first come basis. We are currently accepting applications for Camp Erin 2017. The loss does not have to be recent: children/teens grieve developmentally. The camp experience is not so much about “being sad”, but more about connection with peers to normalize the experience.

The camp is offered at no charge and for children and teens, ages 6 to 17, who have experienced the death of someone close to them. Camp Erin combines tradition, fun and camp activities with grief education and emotional support, facilitated by grief professionals and trained volunteers. We truly need your help in connecting with young people who have experienced loss.

For more information, call 561-5322.
