Spring health fairs abound in March

March 1, 2018

We are now in active health fair season, so check out our March fairs, listed at the bottom of this article. Make it to one of these events and you’ll find a variety of resources to help meet your family’s health needs and enjoy some great community gatherings.

Alaska Health Fair events offer free health screenings, health and safety education, plus 11 affordable blood tests and other services that cost about 20 to 25 percent of what you would pay at a clinic or doctor’s office.  These tests can help you learn about your overall health and detect potential problems early, when treatment or changes in personal habits can be most effective.

Alaska Health Fairs will be held at the following locations and times during March. For more information, call 907-278-0234 (Anchorage) or 907-374-6853 (Fairbanks); or just visit our website for a complete roster of our blood tests, the seasonal schedule, occasional updates, monthly announcements and newsletters on health related topics.

If you’re interested in bringing an Alaska Health Fair event to your place of employment (as dozens of companies do), just give us a call and we can talk with and walk you through what services we can provide your agency’s employees, all conveniently located at your worksite.

Volunteers needed

We need non-medical and medical volunteers, plus experienced volunteer phlebotomists, to help us meet our mission, vision and core purpose to serve all Alaskans. Time volunteered for Alaska Health Fair meets continued competency requirements for RN license renewal.  We would also love your support at the office in both Anchorage and Fairbanks.  Check out our website at www.alaskahealthfair.org and select the volunteer tab at the top of the main page. It just takes moments to complete and submit the form. You’ll receive an immediate confirmation email that we’ve received your application and an event email, about two weeks out, telling you what we have you doing, where, when, etc. for each event you selected.  We thank all of our volunteers, exhibitors and local site coordinators for their tireless work to make our events worthy of your efforts to improve your overall health.

New office location in Fairbanks

Alaska Health Fair’s Fairbanks office moved to a new location in February, where it will be able to better serve the public. We are now located in Suite 201 on the second floor of the Fairbanks Community Food Bank Building located at 725 26th Ave. The Fairbanks Community Food Bank and Alaska Health Fair (Fairbanks) both happen to be United Way of the Tanana Valley member agencies; so this looks like it will develop into a great partnership.

There is full access to a large elevator and full flight of stairs (for those who want to get some heart healthy exercise) to our second floor offices. Our new location doubles our previous floor space, has larger rooms to provide trainings and hold meetings, specific rooms for storage of equipment and materials and health education, plus a spacious reception area and dedicated blood draw room.  We will return to offering our first and third Tuesday blood draw services this month on March 6 and 20. Just call to make an appointment.

Our USPS mailing address has changed to 725 26th Ave., Suite 201, Fairbanks, Alaska  99701.  Our phone number (907) 374-6853; fax (907) 374-6854 and email ahfrur@gci.net will all stay the same.  We will be hosting a grand opening on March 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. All are invited to come see our new digs.

If you feel like volunteering some time to help us get settled, call Sharon Phillips, Tanana Valley/Northern Region Program Director, at (907) 374-6853.  Thanks for your strong support over the years.
