High on a hill with 50 steps climbing up to it, sits the homestead house, which serves as the Yukon Island Center for Research and Education. Gretchen’s nephew has converted the upper level of the barn, in front, into additional lodging. About 25 people can be comfortably accommodated at the Center. (Much larger groups of school kids have tented out on the property.)
