Older Americans celebrations in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau

The Anchorage Senior Citizens Advisory Commission invites everyone to the annual Older Americans Month Kickoff Event at the Anchorage Senior Activity Center on May 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This free event features refreshments, entertainment, keynote speech from form state senator Johnny Ellis, and presentation of the Ron Hammett Award for public service. This year’s theme is “Engage at Every Age.”

Also in May, Fairbanks’ annual Senior Recognition Day event will be held Thursday, May 10 at the Carlson Center, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event provides a free meal, speeches by local dignitaries, informational tables, and presentation of Lifetime Fitness Awards. Transportation to and from the event is available by calling Van Tran at 459-1010. Call soon: this event is one of the largest of the year, with hundreds attending. The Juneau Commission on Aging is hosting an Older Americans Month celebration at the Juneau Pioneer Home, May 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. The is the first year for this event. Call Eileen Hosey, Juneau Commission on Aging Chair, for more information, 789-2912 or 463-6113.
