"Obituary Writing 101" at Hospice of Anchorage

July 1, 2019

Summer is in full swing around here at Hospice of Anchorage. We would love for you to get involved with us, and we have a few opportunities coming up that may be of interest to you. Every month we hold an educational workshop that you are welcome to attend, network at, and learn from.

Wednesday, July 17 from 3 to 4 p.m. we will be hosting a special workshop on “Obituary Writing 101”. Join Hospice of Anchorage staff as we give tips and tricks about what to include in an obituary and how to help your loved ones understand what is most important to you. We’ll be discussing both things to think about if you would like to prepare your own obituary, as well as how to write an obituary for a loved one. The program will be held at Hospice of Anchorage, 2612 E. Northern Lights Blvd. Please call 561-5322 and let us know that you are coming.

Care for LGBT elders

Wednesday, Aug. 14 from 3 to 4 p.m. special guest speakers from SAGE Alaska will be presenting “Kind Hearts and Open Minds – Caring for LGBT Elders.” SAGE Alaska is a program of Identity, whose mission is to advance Alaska’s LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community through advocacy, education and connectivity. This program will be presented here at Hospice of Anchorage. Let us know if you can make it by calling 561-5322.

Volunteers welcome

Interested in volunteering this summer? We will be co-hosting the annual Walk to Remember with Providence Bereavement Council on Aug. 10, and are in need of four to six volunteers to help with set up, activity booths, and supporting participants. This is a memory walk for anyone who has been impacted by a pregnancy or early infant loss.

If you or a loved one are experiencing any kind of life-limiting illness and are in need of support, please give us a call to see if we can help. Our program includes nurse educators, volunteers and social workers all working together to increase your quality of life. Our services are available free of charge and we do not need a physician referral. Give us a call today at 561-5322.

Bethany Burgess is the clinical director for Hospice of Anchorage.
