State fairs are around the corner

Tanana Valley State Fair is Aug. 2-11 in Fairbanks. Senior admission (age 60 and older) is $20 for a Senior Season Pass and $5 for a Senior Daily Pass. Free admission for seniors on Senior Day, Aug. 7. Events include a senior luncheon, pie eating contests, rodeo, cake decorating, Alaska Heritage Day, community wellness events and more. The Kenai Peninsula Fair takes place Aug. 16-18 in Ninilchik. Senior admission is $10 for a three Day Pass and $5 for a Day Pass. This year’s theme “Our Favorite Place to Bee!” includes the Kenai Peninsula Racing Pigs, rodeo, 4H and Auction, food and craft vendors, carnival rides, the chance to meet a mermaid and more. This year’s Alaska State Fair takes place Aug. 22–Sept. 2 in Palmer. Senior (age 65 and older) admission is $9 weekdays, $10 weekends (discount of $2 if tickets are pre-purchased before Aug. 21). Other pricing packages are available. Events include musical headliners, the giant cabbage weigh-off, various local craftsmen and vendors, rodeo, petting zoo and much more.

Kodiak Rodeo and State Fair in Kodiak is Aug. 31 & Sept. 1. Livestock, vegetables, flowers, baking, canning, arts and crafts contests and exhibits, boot race, calf scramble, hay rides, petting zoo, much more.
