'Savvy Caregiver' training for dementia care

 


Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska will offer “Savvy Professional” training workshops this month in Ketchikan, Anchorage, Fairbanks and Palmer. Sponsored in part by the Trust Training Cooperative, the workshops are designed for those who have a working knowledge of dementia and are in roles that support individuals, families and/or direct care workers.

Learning objectives include:

• Compare the current state of one’s personal and organizational practices with those identified as best practice in person centered care.

• Identify quality indicators that measure the effectiveness of a person-centered care model.

• Practice strength-based care planning.

• Discuss the concept of attaining the highest practicable level of well-being through meaningful engagement. 

CNE activity credit is available.

Juneau classes

A six-week “Savvy Caregiver Dementia Care” series will be offered May 7 through June 11 in Juneau, with classes meeting Wednesdays, 6 to 8 p.m., 3225 Hospital Drive. The classes are for family caregivers, with discussions on decision making and the emotions caregivers face, as well as a thorough overview of Alzheimer’s and related dementia.
