Better living through functional training

Long-time Anchorage fitness expert and frequent Senior Voice contributor Bonnie Murphy has released her book, "Young Longer: Functional Fitness to Renew Your Strength, Balance, and Energy for Your Best Years Yet." Murphy, a certified Functional Aging Specialist from the Functional Aging Institute, says she wrote and published the book in partnership with the Institute to help seniors learn about the benefits of "functional" training and learn how to do the workouts themselves, in their homes.

Functional training is an approach to exercise that focuses on enhancing performance of movements used in everyday living, Murphy writes in the book. "In the end, it really comes down to helping you do the things you need to do, the stuff you enjoy doing, and those things you dream or hope to do with greater ease, enjoyment and less pain."

The book includes background on functional training, illustrations of how to perform various exercises, recommended equipment, entire workouts and more. Murphy also includes lively stories about her career in the fitness industry, testimonials from successful clients, with plenty of jokes and encouragement.

The book price is $9.95. For more information or to place an order, visit the website http://www.bfitandwell.com or call 907-229-7652.
