Time to get gardening

Free educational virtual meetings in May

May 1, 2020

Join Julie Riley, Tanana District Extension horticulturist on Fridays and Tuesdays for free, informal discussions on gardening in Interior Alaska, via Zoom web videoconferencing using your computer, smartphone, iPad or tablet. No internet service or cell phone coverage? No problem. You can dial in from your telephone, but you will only be able to hear the presentations, not see them.

There are two weekly meetings: the VegHeads Virtual Garden Hour on Fridays, 7 to 8:30 p.m., and New Gardener Q&A on Tuesdays, noon to 1 p.m.

VegHeads starts with a 15- to 20-minute presentation by Julie Riley and then opens up for Q&A and discussion. Any vegetable gardening question is fair game. Questions don’t need to relate to the presentation topics. No registration is required.

VegHead topics: May 1, Go, go snow; May 8, organic nutrients; May 15, planting outside now; May 22, indispensable gardening tools.

The New Gardener Q&A virtual hour on Tuesdays is intended to give new gardeners an opportunity to ask questions every Tuesday through May. No registration is required. You’re welcome to sign on or call in any time during the hour, but you take your chances after 12:15 p.m. If there are no questions, your host, Julie Riley, will log off.

All sessions are free.

Call or email Julie Riley for the correct Zoom sign in and ID information, 907-230-7339 or jariley@alaska.edu.
