Alaska Chinese Association celebrates 50th anniversary

Alaska Chinese Association is marking its 50th anniversary with Golden Jubilee Lunar New

Year celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 15 at Dimond High School (2909 W. 88th Ave., Anchorage, AK 99502) will feature

performances, food, and family activities.

The community celebration leads into the Year of the Horse,

which begins with Lunar New Year on Feb. 17, 2026, marking half a century of Chinese

heritage, community building, and cultural fusion in Alaska.

Founded in 1976, ACA is a nonprofit focused on preserving Chinese heritage, promoting

cultural appreciation, and building community across Alaska. The organization hosts annual

public celebrations and supports year-round cultural education, including the Yen Wulin Alaska

Chinese School.

"This celebration is both a Lunar New Year celebration and a 50-year milestone for ACA," said

Mei Zhao, an ACA board member. "It's a public, family-friendly celebration, rooted in tradition and shaped by Alaska.

Event highlights and visual opportunities include:

-"Golden Dragon" performance: A shimmering, custom-designed dragon created specifically for the 50th Jubilee to symbolize prosperity and performed by local Alaskans.

-Guest Lion Dance performance: presented by a professional team from Oregon.

-Dynamic Cultural Showcase: A visual feast featuring a Qipao Fashion Show, Wu Tan martial arts, the rhythmic thunder of Waist Drum Dance, and high-skill Diabolo.

-"Ink & Ice"art & activities: A digital visual presentation transforming iconic Alaskan landscapes into Chinese ink-wash–style imagery. Interactive family activities & Alaska–China fusion visuals.
