The Alaska State Fair is Aug. 21-Sept. 7 in Palmer. This year’s lineup of concerts should appeal to Gen X, Boomers and younger generations. For example, heavy-metal band Megadeth plays Aug. 22. Cake plays Aug. 27 and comedian and actor Nick Offerman of “Parks and Rec” fame appears Sept. 6. If you have a need for speed, the Alaska Raceway Park in Palmer hosts the Drag & Drift Street Night on Aug. 22. Tickets are available here…. Classes begin August 24 at all three universities in the University of Alaska system. UAF, UAA and UAS all welcome senior citizens to their classrooms and waives tuition for those eligible under Board of Regents policy R05.10.080.B.
