This is the month that termination dust arrives on the mountains, and the birch leaves turn a stunning gold. It’s also the first opportunity in months enjoy a darker sky, including the chance for glimpsing the aurora borealis. The Alaska State Fair runs through Sept. 7 at the fairgrounds in Palmer....The Anchorage Museum’s informative exhibit Cold War to the Cosmos runs through Sept. 7....The Anchorage Community Theatre is presenting “1776: The Musical.” The play is performed the weekends of Sept. 18-20, Sept. 24-27, Oct. 1-4, and Oct. 8…. The Ngíisdla (to heal, recover, and get well again, Haida) Garden team at Alaska Native Heritage Center hosts "Finish the Unfinished" every Thursday from 5-8 p.m. through September. Work on your unfinished crafts in a community rooted in healing, truth-telling, and cultural preservation. New crafts and crafters are welcome. The meeting is in the Mabel Pike Art Room, 8800 Heritage Center Dr. Sewing machines and crafting supplies (such as beads, scrap fur, and scrap fabric) will be available to use. Limited snacks will be provided. People are welcome to bring something to share….The University of Alaska Anchorage College of Arts and Sciences started a lecture series a few years ago, and it’s bringing in five events this year. The first one is Sept. 10 with Kahlil Greene, a Peabody Award-winning digital educator....The Southside Community Farmers Market in Fairbanks continues until the end of the month. It’s held at 24th Avenue and Rickert Street. It’s a community-focused market offering vegetables, eggs, fish, and other goods….The Fungus Fair is in Girdwood Sept. 12-13 ….Sacred Acre 2026 is a late-summer electronic music and camping festival held September 11–13 in Ninilchik, featuring immersive art and wellness workshops. Pyrah’s Pioneer Peak Farm in Palmer is Sept. 19, 26 and Oct. 3.
