Online studies in traditional Native health practices

The Trust Training Cooperate will offer an online class, “Traditional Health-Based Practices,” this fall on three different days. Course material will focus on traditional lifestyles and health practices of people living in Alaska prior to Western contact. Trainees will be introduced to beliefs, attitudes and knowledge of health promotion and maintenance that were practiced, and will examine major changes leading to the current health status of the Alaska Native community. A special emphasis will be placed on potential strategies for improving behaviorally based health.

The class is eight hours and offered throughout the state via live, interactive video conferencing. The dates are: Aug. 30, Sept. 29 and Oct. 27. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees can earn Continuing Education (CE) credits. Cost is $115, with payment due three weeks prior to class.
