Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc. driver Shaun Herron shows off the organization's new shuttle bus, purchased in April largely with a $60,000 Mat Su Health Foundation donation. The Ford E350 has two stations for wheelchairs, compared to the previous van's one. "In both wheelchair spaces and main seating, we've doubled the number of people we can serve on a single trip," WASI CEO Chuck Foster noted in the organization's May 2018 newsletter. In addition to the Mat Su Health Foundation donation, Tote Maritime carried the bus from the Lower 48 port at no charge, and the MEA Foundation donated $4,400 to help purchase winter tires and other accessories. If you live near the Wasilla Senior Center and need a ride to get there, call 376-3104.
