Senior Voice recognized in national awards contest

Older Persons Action Group, Inc., earned honors for its monthly, statewide publication Senior Voice in the 29th annual National Mature Media Awards Program. The program, presented by the Mature Market Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for the senior market, recognizes the nation’s finest marketing, communications, educational materials and programs designed and produced for older adults.

OPAG and Senior Voice won four awards:

Merit Award to Erin Kirkland for her articles in the monthly travel column, “Going Places”

Merit Award to Mackenzie Stewart for her series on senior-related funding and bills in the Alaska state legislature

Merit Award for best publication

Bronze Award to correspondent Maraley McMichael for her memoir, “Tales of the Beast”

The entries were judged by a panel of mature market experts from across the United States for overall excellence of design, content, creativity and relevance to the senior market.

Older Persons Action Group has been publishing Senior Voice for 42 years. The monthly newspaper, aimed at older Alaskans and their families, is distributed statewide, and is provided free to low-income seniors. Some funding is provided through a federal and state grant managed by the State of Alaska. Senior Voice also posts editions to its website at http://www.seniorvoicealaska.com.
