Hospice of Anchorage, your community resource

January 1, 2021

At Hospice of Anchorage, we focus on caring, not curing. Our Lifeways Program is available to people of all ages with any life-limiting illness. When you or a loved one is diagnosed with a serious or life-limiting illness, Hospice of Anchorage provides assistance by helping you prepare for and live well with your illness, understanding death, dying and grief. We focus on helping you live as fully as possible despite your diagnosis. If you’re wondering if we can help you, call us at 907-561-5322. Our staff is happy to talk to you about your situation and figure out the best next steps for you and your loved ones.

Loan closet

Are you recovering from an illness or surgery? Perhaps you need a bedside commode or a shower bench? Hospice of Anchorage has a Loan Closet available to anyone in our community, and all items are free of charge. Our Loan Closet has a variety of donated equipment to help Alaskans remain independent in their homes. It is stocked with walkers, canes, wheelchairs, extension grabbers, commodes, shower benches and incontinence supplies (briefs in all sizes for men and women). We offer a convenient curbside pick-up for all items.

Resource Center

The Resource Center at Hospice of Anchorage is expanding, and we’re continually adding new book titles. We have hundreds of books available to the community free of charge. Like our Loan Closet, our Resource Center is operating on a curbside basis. We are happy to get you the materials you want without significant risk of virus transmission.

We offer books on caregiving, chronic illness, children’s grief, child loss, grief, life review, dementia and end of life. Our entire inventory is available at https://hospiceofanchorage.org/resource-center/.

Just call us at 907-561-5322 and let us know which books you are interested in, then we will leave the books and a note with your name in our book drop just outside the front door of our office at 2612 E. Northern Lights Blvd.

If you would like to return a book, swing by and drop it back in the book drop, and we will properly sanitize it before returning it to our shelves.

Besides books, the Hospice of Anchorage Resource Center has two additional components:

Our Advanced Directives section has all the paperwork needed to get your health care wishes and power of attorney status in order.

Dementia Toolkits are available and filled with various sensory items that may bring joy or relief to individuals experiencing some form of dementia or cognitive impairment.

For more information on any of our services, please call 907-561-5322 or email info@hospiceofanchorage.org.

Amy Tribbett is the Hospice of Anchorage executive director.
