Jean Kaufman was named this year's Outstanding Volunteer in Philanthropy at the Association of Fundraising Professionals Alaska Chapter annual meeting Nov. 7 in Anchorage. Kaufman, 94, has volunteered for 54 organizations in Anchorage since she arrived in Alaska in 1953 and she continues sharing her time and resources throughout the community. She presented her award during the annual meeting luncheon and awards at the Hotel Captain Cook. For many years, Jean volunteered at a different organization six days a week, keeping Friday as her "open" day so she could take care of personal business. The annual award is presented to "the individual who has demonstrated dedication, exceptional service and leadership as a volunteer in philanthropic activities throughout the community," according to an AFP Alaska press statement. "This individual, by his or her personal commitment, has made a positive and lasting impact on the advancement of philanthropy in Alaska."
