Spring training series on geriatrics

April 1, 2017

The Alaska Center for Rural Health and Health Workforce is partnering again with the Northwest Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Center (NWGWEC), The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, and The Alaska Training Cooperative to bring 10 weeks of high quality geriatric trainings to Alaska via virtual classroom.

The 2017 Spring Geriatric Education Series begins March 28 and continues through May 30, 2017. Registration is open online at www.akcache.org

The series will offer trainings each Tuesday through May 30, via virtual classroom via the Internet.

The series is designed to give community-based providers working in the field of aging – physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, pharmacists and other interested professionals – access to valuable information without traveling. Classes feature nationally and regionally recognized NWGWEC faculty discussing their areas of expertise on caregiving and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. Topics range from diagnosing dementia to “Herbals, Supplements and Dementia,” and “Driving and Dementia” to “Caring for the Caregiver”. A complete schedule is available online, as well as a list of host sites around the state at https://www.akcache.org/Training/Class/81837.

You must attend classes at one of the 17 host sites around the state; the locations are listed on the website. Class times are 3 to 4:30 p.m. Alaska time, each Tuesday.

Registration costs start at $10 per session and up, depending on options, and continuing education credit is available for an additional fee. Anyone can register at any time for the classes, there is no deadline.

Visit the website for information on the class schedule, topics and presenters and host sites.
