Online class focuses on Alaska Native storytelling

December 1, 2018

The Alaska Training Cooperative and Rural Alaska Health Professions Foundation present “Alaska Native Storytelling: Teaching 10,000+ Years of Evidence,” as part of the Behavioral Health Continuing Education series.

This is the time of year for Alaska Native storytelling, 10,000-plus years of evidence-based practice that has been taught and passed through generations. Stories teach beliefs and practices that support wellness, healing and survival of life’s challenges while often informing contemporary science. The class will be offered Dec. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. via interactive, web-based delivery using Zoom. Instruction will be provided by Sarah McConnell, LCSW, with support from a training team of Athabascan and Alaska Native Elders.

Continuing Education (CE) credits are approved by Alaska Board of Professional Counselors, Alaska Board of Social Work Examiners with Socialization in Cross Cultural: Alaska Native Specific and Alaska Commission for Behavioral Health through the training’s face-to-face camera and visual contact component. A video camera is required to verify attendance to obtain these credits. If you need a community site to attend the training, please include the name of your community during registration and every effort will be made to arrange a community location.

Zoom can be used on a PC or Mac, laptop, iPad or tablet and requires an Internet connection, a microphone and a video camera.

The cost for the training is $40. Your evaluation is due when the training is completed. There will be an additional $15 fee due for CE Certification if your registration fee or training evaluation is not received within 30 calendar days after the training event.
