The Alaska Commission on Aging (ACoA) will meet Feb. 11-13, in Juneau for their quarterly board meeting. The meeting will also include visits with legislators and their staff to provide information on topics related to the Alaska senior population and the programs that serve them.

The commission’s meeting is open to the public both in person and via teleconference at group teleconference sites including the Anchorage Senior Activity Center, Ketchikan Pioneer Home, Mat-Su Senior Services, Soldotna Senior Center, Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center and the Division of Senior and Disabilities Conference Room, 6th Floor, 240 Main Street in Juneau.

Meeting presentations will include reports from the Dept. of Health and Social Services Commissioner’s Office, Div. of Senior & Disabilities Services, the Long-Term Care Ombudsman’s Office, the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation Senior Housing Office, Alaska Boards and Commissions, and the Dept. of Labor Commissioner’s Office.

In addition, the commission is convening the second annual “Partnering in Advocacy for Alaska Seniors” as a special joint advocacy summit bringing together representatives from various senior advocacy organizations including AgeNet, the Pioneer Home Advisory Board, Statewide Independent Living Council, and AARP Alaska to discuss their legislative advocacy priorities this session. The national AARP office will also make a presentation about “Helping Alaska Workers Prepare for a Financially Secure and Self-Sufficient Retirement.”
