New library resources from Anchorage hospice

October 1, 2020

The Hospice of Anchorage team has spent countless hours reimagining what we do and how to continue to provide services to Alaskans. In part, this pandemic has allowed us to spend focused attention on renewing a long dreamed of project - the Hospice of Anchorage Resource Center.

The cornerstone of the Hospice of Anchorage Resource Center is our library. We have hundreds of books available to the community free of charge. Books are available in each of the following subjects: caregiving, child loss, children’s grief, chronic illness, dementia, end of life, grief, and life review/after a death planning. Call us at 561-5322 and our staff can guide you toward the right books or you can check out our detailed inventory list on our website at http://www.hospiceofanchorage.org.

Currently the library is operating on a curbside basis and we are happy to get you support without significant risk of virus transmission. Just call us and let us know which books you are interested in, then we will leave the books and a note with your name in our book drop just outside the front door of our office at 2612 E. Northern Lights Blvd. If you would like to return a book, swing by and drop it back in the book drop and we will properly sanitize it before returning it to our shelves.

If learning something from our resource center library is of interest to you, don’t hesitate to take action and give us a call.

As always, if anyone is experiencing a life-limiting illness and is in need of support, please let us know. We provide free and expert care in the form of nurse education, social work, and volunteer support.

Bethany Burgess is the Hospice of Anchorage Clinical Director.
