A highlight of the spring calendar is the Alaska Folk Festival in Juneau. The festival is April 6-12. There are two main venues, the main stage at Centennial Hall, 101 Egan Drive, and the dance stage at JAHC, 350 Whittier St. The guest artist is Willi Carlisle, who recently released his fourth album... Katie Orlinski, National Geographic photographer and explorer, will speak on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus at 7 p.m. April 16 at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium. Orlinsky will share her powerful photographic work detailing her journey from conflict photographer to environmental storyteller. Get tickets here. Her visit is part of the UAA College of Arts and Sciences Community Lecture Series ... The Alaska Native Media Group is organizing the Alaska Native Book Fair and Authors Event. The fair celebrates Alaska Native authors across all genres, offering opportunities for them to sell their work and connect directly with the community. Last year’s event had more than 250 attendees. The program featured award-winning authors, panel discussions, video interviews, and participation from over 24 authors and two Alaska Native foundations. It takes place from noon to 4 p.m. April 17 at the Cook Inlet Tribal Council building, 3600 San Jeronimo Drive in Anchorage. The Fairbanks Outdoors Show is April 24-26 at the Carlson Center. The show is packed with outside activities, ATVs, camping gear, travel ideas, health and fitness, local food vendors, nonprofits, car care, home improvements, shopping, and more. It will help you plan your summer.... The Stikine River Birding Festival is April 22-26 at the Nolan Center, 296 Campbell Drive, in Wrangell. The Stikine River Delta has one of the largest springtime concentration in North America of bald eagles, sandhill cranes, snow geese, and shorebirds. You can participate in a bird-call competition, build a birdhouse, and just watch the birds migrate through the area.
